Starlets Kick Off Support for YoungMinds
10 October 2019
Fundraising has always been a core part of Stevenage Starlets right from the start. Each season through a vote at our AGM we select a cause for the club to support.
This year youth mental health charity YoungMinds was the overwhelming choice and becomes our chose charity for 2019/20. Today is World Mental Health Day so it's a great opportunity to kick off our fundraising efforts.
We asked players and coaches to wear something yellow to training to demonstrate their support as part of the #HelloYellow campaign. As you can see they really did deliver, while at the same time raising hundreds of pounds in donations. Well done everyone!
It’s clear that mental health is an issue that’s close to the hearts of many in our club and simply getting people talking openly about it is an important step in removing the stigma that can prevent people from seeking the help they need.
We also know that playing football can be a great way to build confidence and resilience in young people and that being part of a team that works together week in and week out can help create positive support networks for both players and parents.
Nevertheless there is a worrying trend that sees more children and young people than ever before reaching out for help with their mental health, and unfortunately for those who take that brave step, the right help is often much too hard to find.
YoungMinds are leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges, working make sure they get the best possible mental health support to overcome life’s difficulties.
We look forward to holding many more events over the course of the season where we can help raise money and awareness for this amazing charity who aim to ensure that all young people get the help they need.

UPDATE August 2020 - With the Coronovirus pandemic cutting short the 2019/20 season we have decided to retain YoungMinds as our chosen charity for the 2020/21 season and subsequently for the 2021/22 as well. We feel that after the all anxiety and isolation caused by the pandemic young people's mental health is in more need of support than ever.
